Search Engine Optimization constantly changes and updates just as all other technologies and systems. Try these SEO tips to help keep your site at the top of Google’s search results in 2018.
Creating your website was quite the process. Designing assets, finding a reliable host, choosing layouts and colors. To make sure all that hard work doesn’t go to waste, it’s important to make sure your site is able to be found in search results. Search engine optimization is a somewhat elusive concept that essentially means “making your site easier to find” by tapping into the ways search engines analyze results. There is still no one answer on how to optimize, but if you put in the time and effort it should be smooth sailing. Here are a couple tips on how to optimize your website for search engines.
Utilize Google Page Speed Insights
SEO is a snowball effect, the more eyes that are on it, the more eyes that will eventually see it. So making sure people can see your site with a reasonable load time is key to ramping up your search engine results. Loading time is an important aspect of SEO since it directly affects the likelihood of someone to stay on, interact with, and share your site. Google has a free, in-house tool aptly named Page Speed Insights to help analyze your websites loading time. The Insights tool also gives suggestions on fixing your sites load time, again boosting your SEO capabilities.
Ensure Mobile Responsiveness
People are connected to their smartphone more than their desktop in the current digital age. In fact, mobile searches accounted for nearly 60% of all web searches in 2016. Making sure your site is viewable and accessible to mobile devices in the same capacity as desktop devices is pertinent for optimization. Most site builders like Wix and WordPress have tools for mobile preview, which can help understand how mobile users will interact with your website. If you’re using a third party to make your website, be sure to ask about what they’ve done for mobile view!
Focus on Quality of Quantity
This is the “Golden Rule” of search engine optimization. Throwing a hundred of keywords into posts will not get your viewed by the audiences of all those keywords. It will instead give you minimal reach into all of them and leave you successful in none. The same rule applies to links and content as well. Put the upfront time and effort into choosing outbound (and inbound!) links that are relevant and trusted. MAKE content (not auto-generate) that appeals to an audience who is actually looking for your brand. The key here is that you can’t trick Google into boosting you by overloading your site with “SEO shortcuts.”
In 2018 and beyond, the best tool for good SEO is authenticity. Search engines are striving to deliver real content to real people online, and you should be too! If you need help getting your site in front of people, call S/C Marketing at 630-456-0827.
