Susan MacNicol Speaking Biography

Detailed Career History:

Fulfilling a desire to work in the entertainment business, Susan MacNicol completed her B.A. degree in Chicago, then moved to Los Angeles and started her career in the film industry at Columbia Pictures, where she was tasked with marketing major Hollywood hits such as Terminator 2 and City Slickers. Her career then progressed to Television and she managed marketing for Sony Pictures Television with hits such as Seinfeld, Married with Children and Designing Women. Later, as Director of Marketing and PR at Samuel Goldwyn Studios, she established a new TV marketing department and supported the national marketing of The American Gladiators. An offer to work in Europe and the Middle East in the Satellite TV industry brought Susan to a marketing role based in Rome, Italy with frequent trips to Dubai. Later roles back in the U.S. included marketing and sales for Pay TV Provider STARZ Encore and an Internet services company, HSA, founded by Microsoft pioneer Paul Allen. In 2001, she opened her marketing firm and has completed both marketing and recruiting projects for industry leaders such as Johnson & Johnson, OfficeMax, Sears, Experian and Nielsen, along with small businesses and non-profits.

Speaking Topics

Marketing and Branding

Extensive experience in several industries and companies has provided Susan with extensive real-world knowledge to share with audiences about the importance of marketing and branding to build sales, and how to differentiate between the two. The risks she’s taken in her professional life inspire others who face difficult choices but must overcome personal and financial challenges to achieve success.

Recruiting, Landing that Dream Job

As a recruitment insider at several major corporations, Susan also shares knowledge and specific steps required to land job interviews and, ultimately, the job offer.

Recruitment Marketing and Employment Branding

This unique area combines both marketing and recruiting in an effort to attract the best talent in an ever-shrinking talent market. Susan provides an overview of why companies must employ these initiatives in order to recruit the top employees. She explains specific tactics to implement such as career page content, social media career pages and posts, Glass Door overviews, employee content including testimonials, social media posts, photos and videos.

Overcoming Obstacles for Personal Success

At age 9, Susan’s life unexpectedly changed when her parents moved the family to Damascus, Syria for her Father’s career and an opportunity to meet her extended family members. She spent the next 18 months experiencing life in a third world country, learning Arabic, and gaining a first-hand view of life in the Middle East without all the comforts of her previous American Childhood. This experience changed her worldview and had a lasting impact on her life. Susan also overcame many obstacles to excel in theatre programs during high school, obtain a college scholarship based on academics and theatrical performance, and ultimately follow her dreams to work in the film industry in Los Angeles, CA. Her climb up the corporate ladder in the highly-competitive entertainment industry, along with a marketing role based in Rome, Italy involving trips to Dubai and Damascus provide compelling stories about women succeeding in business, both domestically and internationally.

We Develop Websites based on 10 Tips that Delivers Huge Sales!

  • Purpose & Clarity

Prior to creating a website, outline the purpose or goals of your website.
  • Usability / Mobile Friendly

Make sure the tabs and navigation are clear, easy to see, understand and use.
Ensure that your site is based on a well-planned wire frame so that it will also be compatible with mobile devices.
  • User-Focused

Make sure that your website is both functional and accessible. The copy should contain the main information that a visitor is interested in reading.
Plus, the design should enable visitors to quickly see key information and understand how to move around the site to find the content they are searching for.
  • Navigation

Develop an intuitive and easy-to-navigate website. It will make your users happy, reduce bounce rates and encourage them to visit the site again in the future.
  • Copy

Personalize content that builds credibility, augments the brand voice, develops relationships with target audiences, and helps them make an informed decision.
Include calls to action on the home page and some clear direction on the ideal action you want visitors to take.
Highlight your Value Proposition on your Home Page. Communicate your values and mission—not just what you’re selling.
  • Design

The website design should appeal to your target audience and present your company in a professional manner.
Make sure that your site design fits and reflects your brand. Colors, typography, graphics, and photos must all work together as a cohesive package that will continue to be relevant over time.
  • Ease of Updates and Content Management

Build your site with a Content Management System (CMS) which will allow for easy access and updates in the future.
  • SEO & Analytics

Ensure that when a person searches for your type of business, your site’s content is recognized by Google as an appropriate match and include your site URL within the first page (ideally) of the search results.
Incorporate tracking and site analytics programs to provide insight into what’s really happening on your website, from traffic metrics to keyword searches.
  • Blogs

Create informative blogs with content that is relevant to visitors, communicates your expertise and enables visitors to get to know your business and industry even better.
  • SSL Certificate

Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol is responsible for creating secure communication between a website and its visitors.

If these 10 elements resonate with you and you’re ready to create a website that clearly reflects your mission and values, plus showcases your products/services and unique Value Proposition, give us a call!
